KIMMTA Football Tournament December 2025

In partnership with uk Rotary Clubs & supporters

more than football.

The annual KIMMTA Football Tournament is more than a game - it is one of the most impactful community events in Kibera, Nairobi. Now part of the fabric of life during the long December school break, the tournament brings sport, mentorship and hope to young people who need it most.

Thanks to the extraordinary support of Rotary Clubs and partners across the UK, this year’s tournament brought together an estimated 1,200 young players, supported by coaches, referees, volunteers and families from across the community.

Support from Rotary Clubs

This year’s tournament and associated empowerment sessions were made possible through the generosity of a network of Rotary supporters, whose commitment to youth, community and opportunity has been transformational.

More Than a Tournament

In an environment where sport might be seen as leisure, the KIMMTA Football Tournament shows how it can be a catalyst for opportunity:

A safe space during the long break.
During long school holidays, many children in Kibera have few structured activities and can be exposed to harmful influences. The tournament offers a positive, engaging and safe alternative exactly when it’s needed.

Empowerment through mentorship.
Each match day is paired with structured mentorship sessions led by trained mentors and role models. Topics go far beyond football - covering health, wellbeing, hygiene, sexual health and HIV awareness, drug and crime prevention, and how to make positive life decisions. These conversations are powerful, practical and life-affirming.

Inclusion and gender equality.
Both boys and girls compete across age categories, helping to break stereotypes and open doors for all participants. By creating safe spaces and equitable opportunities, the tournament champions gender equality and empowers young women to excel.

Community unity.
The tournament brings together hundreds of neighbours, coaches, parents and supporters, reinforcing community bonds and collective pride. It is an event marked by celebration, shared experience and joy.

Sport as a Platform for Change

Through the combination of sport, mentorship and community engagement, the KIMMTA Tournament has created measurable impact by:

  • Keeping over 1,200 young people engaged and active during holiday months

  • Providing structured education and mentorship alongside sport

  • Supporting inclusive participation across genders

  • Strengthening community cohesion in one of the largest informal settlements in Africa

Support a Future Tournament

The tournament has become an anticipated part of the December calendar -offering purpose, inspiration and a sense of belonging. It is not just a celebration of sport; it is an investment in young lives.

Why continued support matters:

  • Provides a safe, structured programme during the long school break

  • Reinforces positive life skills and mentorship when children are most vulnerable

  • Encourages gender equality and leadership through sport

  • Strengthens the connection between education, community and opportunity

You can help ensure this continues. Sponsoring next year’s KIMMTA Football Tournament means fuelling more dreams, more mentorship sessions, and more opportunities - year after year.
