Nyamwanga: ECD

Welcome to Nyamwanga

Why here?

We heard that the ECD Centre in Nyamwanga was underfunded and the teachers were forced to choose which children to feed. We desperately wanted to do something, so we started funding daily school meals for the 170 pre-schoolers here.

What does boo do?

  • Fund teachers wages

  • Fund cooks wages

  • Provide Daily lunches

Did you know?

When we first started working with Nyamwanga, they didn't have a solid structure for their ECD classroom. Instead, children had to learn outside with only the shade of trees to protect them from the beating heat of the sun.

Using cow dung to build temporary classroom floors, lots of children started contracting jiggers - parasitic insects that bury in to the skin, mainly on the feet.

If left untreated, they can become infected, cause impaired mobility, and lead to amputation or even death in the worst cases.

That’s why we built an ECD classroom, with tiled floors to make a safe and welcoming learning environment for our learners.

Thank you from our students

Beautiful poem from our Nyamwanga students, giving thanks for all the support they receive from The Boo Charity

There’s still so much more that we can do to help improve the teaching at our Nyamwanga ECD.

The families of our students are among the poorest of the poor in rural Kenya. With the majority of the population being farmers and the instability of the agriculture industry, it’s more important than ever that these children receive a formal education. We’ve seen time and time again that education is the number one way to break the poverty cycle.

We’d be incredibly grateful if you can spare a few pounds - honestly, a little goes a huge way!
