Rebuilding KIMMTA: A New Chapter Begins

In June 2025, we were thrilled to receive a £60,000 grant from the Bournemouth North Rotary Club, via the Marjorie Gordon Fund, to support the construction of a brand-new facility for KIMMTA. This funding marks a transformational moment for a centre that has supported vulnerable young people for nearly two decades.

Our Partnership with KIMMTA

Our relationship with KIMMTA began almost two decades ago, originally as a small initiative aimed at keeping children off the streets through sport. Since then, it has grown into a vital community hub - a place where children learn, play, and access opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.

Today, the centre runs:

  • Playgroup, PP1 and PP2 classes during the day

  • Afterschool programmes in the evenings

  • Weekend empowerment classes and football clubs

KIMMTA has become a safe, inspiring environment where children are encouraged, supported, and protected. We are incredibly proud of how far this partnership has come and excited for the future ahead.

Breaking New Ground

During our October 2025 trip to Kenya - and fittingly, on the day of the PP2 graduation - we had the honour of taking part in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new KIMMTA building. It was a powerful moment for both Boo Charity and the local community, symbolising progress, hope, and the beginning of an important new chapter.

The Build

The existing facility was a semi-permanent structure made of mud and corrugated iron sheets - conditions that are inadequate and unsafe, especially during harsh weather.

At present, the centre can only:

  • Accommodate 70–80 pre-school children

  • Provide evening learning space for around 200 students

The new development will change everything.

This new permanent, purpose-built facility will provide:

  • Greater capacity

  • Additional classrooms and learning spaces

  • Safe, durable infrastructure

  • A supportive environment for both teaching and community programmes

  • Opportunity to keep building, with scope to add additional levels in the future

Once completed, the new centre will serve:

  • Up to 200 pre-school children

  • Up to 500 students during evenings and after-school sessions

Construction is already underway and is expected to be completed by January, ready for the next cohort of young learners.

Demolition has started, October 2025
