KIMMTA Football Tournament 2025: Unity, Dreams, and Goals in the Heart of Kibera

In the heart of Nairobi lies Kibera, one of Africa’s most impoverished communities. Life here is vibrant but challenging - narrow alleyways buzz with life, families face economic hurdles daily, and children grow up quickly in the face of adversity. But amid the struggles, there's something extraordinary happening - football is bringing the community together like never before.

Due to a generous donation at our 2024 Boo Ball from Groveley Precision Engineering Limited, Kibera Mpira Mtaani(KIMMTA) was able to put on their annual Football Tournament. Held on the dust and mud-filled pitches of Kibera, the tournament featured spirited competitions from Under-13 and Under-15 teams, with both boys and girls stepping up to showcase their skills and dreams.

A Game of Hope, A Field of Dreams

Over six vibrant days, the community gathered - young and old, friends and strangers - to cheer for the next generation. Laughter, chants, and the thud of footballs filled the air. For many of these kids, football isn't just a game. It's a lifeline. It teaches discipline, provides an escape during school holidays, and offers hope.

Girl Power on the Pitch

At KIMMTA, empowerment isn’t just a buzzword - it’s the heartbeat of everything they do. By creating safe, inclusive spaces, KIMMTA ensures that every child, especially girls, has the chance to shine, both on and off the field.

Through sports, mentorship, and initiatives like this very football tournament, KIMMTA champions gender equality, encouraging girls to step into their power, one game at a time.

And it’s not just about the sport. KIMMTA also looks after girls' well-being by providing sanitary towels, ensuring that no girl misses out on the game because of basic needs. Because everyone deserves the chance to play, grow, and thrive.

During the tournament, the girls didn’t just participate - they lit up the pitch. With fierce determination and technical brilliance, they wowed the crowds, broke down barriers, and shattered stereotypes with every tackle, goal, and celebration. They weren’t just playing football - they were rewriting the narrative.

And the Winners Are...

Huge congratulations to all the teams that participated, but as always, there was only one winner…  After intense group stages, nail-biting semifinals, and dramatic finals, the tournament crowned its champions:

  • Under 13 Boys: Maren FC

  • Under 15 Boys: Brothers

  • Under 15 Girls: Kibera Starlet

Giving Opportunity, Not Charity

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of Groveley Precision Engineering, whose generous donation covered the full cost of the tournament - from the pitch and equipment to referees and trophies. Their support didn’t just fund football; it fuelled dreams, strengthened community bonds, and created memories that will last a lifetime.

More Than a Tournament

The 2025 KIMMTA Football Tournament was more than just six days of sport - it was a celebration of resilience, hope, and unity. In a place where opportunities can feel few and far between, football lights a spark. It gives young people a reason to believe, to connect, and to keep moving forward.

As the sun sets on this year’s tournament, one thing is clear: the spirit of Kibera is alive and kicking. And as long as there’s a ball to chase and a dream to follow, that spirit will never cease.
