Nyamwanga Primary School Kitchen Project Completed

Thanks to the incredible generosity of One World Group Oxted, the kitchen at Nyamwanga Primary School has undergone a complete transformation.

New Kitchen at Nyamwanga Primary School

Kitchen build completed

The previous structure was unsafe, poorly ventilated and built from corrugated metal. Cooking over open fires in such a confined space filled the kitchen with smoke, creating extremely challenging and hazardous working conditions for the school cooks.

With OWGO’s generous support, we were able to demolish the old kitchen and construct a permanent brick and concrete building that will serve the school for years to come. The new kitchen is secure, with large windows, a solid metal door, and purpose-built ventilation that creates a far safer and more pleasant working environment.

The kitchen block also includes a storeroom for safely storing beans and maize grown on the school’s on-site shamba, as well as a purpose-built work surface, removing the need for cooks to prepare food while bent over. Most importantly, the space now houses a large custom-built gas cooker, allowing meals to be prepared more efficiently and cleanly. A full year’s supply of gas was also donated alongside the cooker.

We are thrilled with the finished build. Not only does it look fantastic, it is already making a real difference - improving the preparation, cooking and serving of daily school meals.

The head teacher, Madame Toto, the school board, teachers, parents and students of Nyamwanga Primary School are incredibly grateful. This kitchen represents more than a building: it is an opportunity for more meals to be cooked, more students to learn, and more young people to build fulfilled lives and break the cycle of poverty.

Thank you, One World Group Oxted, from everyone at The Boo Charity.

Nyamwanga School

Nyamwanga Primary School sits in rural Kenya, around two hours from Kisumu. Disconnected from major economic hubs, the community faces deep poverty, limited employment opportunities, and very little infrastructure.

Yet, despite these challenges, Nyamwanga is a pocket of joy - a safe, vibrant haven where children come eager to learn and dream of a brighter future. Led by the dedicated Madam Eunice Toto, the school carries a powerful sense of community, with multiple generations of families passing through its doors.

At Boo Charity, we support the ECD (Early Childhood Development) classes - children aged 4–7 - by providing monthly food supplies and covering teacher salaries. Before we increased food donations in 2022, we heard heartbreaking stories of young learners walking kilometres on empty stomachs, arriving exhausted, and often leaving halfway through the day because they simply couldn’t concentrate through hunger.

Today, things are different. Every child receives morning porridge and a substantial lunch (often rice and beans), ensuring they have the fuel to learn. Attendance has risen, cohorts have grown, and teachers say this foundation keeps students thriving well into later school years.
