Kenya Trip 2025 Highlights: Empowering Communities and Building Brighter Futures with The Boo Charity

That’s a wrap on our Kenya Trip 2025, but the work we do is far from over!

What an incredible journey this has been. Over the past week, our UK supporters have been busy visiting our projects, celebrating milestones, and planning for what’s next. Here’s a round-up of some of the highlights from our time in Kenya.

KIMMTA, Kibera

We had the absolute pleasure of attending the PP2 graduation at our Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre in Kibera. These little learners have spent the past two years learning, playing, and growing together and are now ready to take their next big step into primary school. It was an honour to present their certificates on behalf of Boo and KIMMTA, celebrate their achievements, and enjoy some well-deserved cake!

While in Kibera, we also took part in several inspiring activities:

  • Empowerment Class: We sat with secondary school students preparing for their end-of-school exams. The discussion was open and heartfelt as they encouraged each other, voiced their hopes and worries, and shared their dreams for the future. We also joined a “Girl Talk” session, discussing topics like period poverty and the importance of education for girls.

  • Football Tournament: The energy on the field was contagious! The mini-tournament brought together students, teachers, and community members - a perfect example of how sport unites and uplifts.

  • New KIMMTA Centre Build: With thanks to Bournemouth North Rotary, we were thrilled to be part of the initial phase of our new KIMMTA centre. This new space will expand our reach, providing a safe, supportive environment for even more young learners in the Kibera community.

 Nyamwanga Primary School

Nyamwanga always feels like coming home. We were greeted with the warmest welcome, with songs, dances, and so many smiles from teachers, parents and students alike.

We spent time with the younger learners and listened to parents and students share stories about the impact of Boo’s support. During our visit, we also celebrated a ground-breaking ceremony for a brand-new kitchen!

At present, the cooks prepare meals in a makeshift structure with open fires and poor ventilation — a tough and unsafe environment for the incredible women who feed 400 students every day. This new kitchen will create a safer, cleaner, and more dignified workspace for them to continue their amazing work.

 Busire Primary School

Visiting Busire was pure joy! We arrived just in time for lunch - laughter, games, and happy chatter filled the playground.

Back in 2017, we helped fund the construction of a permanent kitchen. Now, we’re taking the next step by helping the school transition from firewood to gas cooking. The difference this will make to the health and working conditions of the cooks is enormous.

A new gas cooker and canister costs around £350, and every contribution — big or small — brings us closer to that goal. Together, we can make sure these incredible women have the safe, efficient kitchen they deserve.

Nyamache Life Skills Centre

With enormous thanks to Bournemouth North Rotary and Norco, we’ve secured permanent land for our shamba (farm) at Nyamache.

This shamba provides a sustainable food source for the school, growing beans, maize, sukuma wiki, and other vegetables. Surplus produce is sold at the local market, generating much-needed income to reinvest in the school. One of those investments? Tiling the floors to prevent the spread of jiggers - a small change with a big impact.

We also spent a day reconnecting with the school’s alumni and we can’t wait to share more of their inspiring stories soon!

Special thanks
